Giving Back
Happy to support a community we are proud to serve!
While our Providers at the MediCenter have been fortunate to participate in medical missions across the world, including places like Honduras, Africa, Brazil, Europe, and even Russia, we are acutely aware of the medical need and medically underserved part of our great community on the Kenai Peninsula.
Whether by participating in free medical clinics for the community (screening for all kinds of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer), or by participating in our “Neighbor to Neighbor Clinic” (where patients without ability to pay are able to be seen in the early morning and are then asked to give service to others in the community in place of paying should they meet specific criteria and are able to do so), all of MediCenter Providers and Staff are actively striving to fill the gap in healthcare and “take care of our own” here on the Peninsula.
Each year, the MediCenter team donates Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars worth of healthcare to the Kenai Peninsula Community alone.
Aside from striving to serve our community with high quality healthcare, and reaching out to the medically underserved, our MediCenter team is proud to be involved in many key parts of our community, hoping to help make it a better, safer, and healthier place for years to come.
Some of these activities in which we strive to be actively involved in are listed below.
- Scouting
- Serving in Scouts, donating medical care for scout fundraisers
- Sports
- Physicals for several sports teams in several schools, donating all funds back to the school sports program
- Often see our providers out on the court or on the field should a player become injured
- Proud sponsors of wide variety of school athletic programs
- Public Health Fares and Clinics
- Usually held at home show each year in April. Look for our Patient Centered Primary Care Medical Home Booth to get a free preventative screening and medical consultations. We will post on our website what we will be focusing on a month before the Home Show.
- Monthly we hold a special on one of our preventative screenings so that patients without good preventative coverage as part of their health insurance can afford to screen themselves and their family.
- MediCenter often loans out some of its weight loss equipment to local gyms, with its metabolic rate machine being a big favorite, allowing those interested in losing weight an opportunity to measure their metabolism at a fraction of the cost of what insurances normally pay hundreds of dollars for.
- Dr. Carlson and several of our providers have given and continue to give free “Healthy Living” Seminars in which patients with several different health problems can come and learn how to manage and hopefully cure the disease. We hope to have many of them posted soon.
- Medical and Healthcare Administration Internships
- For years, we have offered paid Pre-Medical School internships. There is a growing shortage in Primary Care Providers and MediCenter is striving to assist qualified, fourth year pre-med students in getting necessary experience in order to be considered seriously while applying to top medical schools. So far, all but one of our pre-med interns have been accepted into medical school and PA school. Part of this is due to the fact that we get great, driven students who apply, but having experience and letters of recommendation from multiple healthcare providers always helps!
- MediCenter is now one of the Alaska sites for Physician Assistant Students at the University of Washington Medex program in Anchorage to do their medical rotations. Being a large multi-specialty practice with providers that are passionate and known for what they do, PA students are exposed to a variety of medicine.
- We are now offering a Healthcare Administration Internship where qualified applicants who have at least completed their third year in their undergrad program can work directly with the Executive Director and Clinic Administrator, assisting them in their work. They also are taken to many of the Board Meetings and other management meetings to help put the skills they are learning in studies to practice.
- .Civil Air Patrol, School Dances, and several other benefits that support other great causes for our community and country
- Assisting in the care of our Newly Returning Veterans.
Should you be seeking aid or assistance in any worthy cause trying to better our community, please don’t hesitate to call and speak with our Administrative Team at the MediCenter, and if we are able, we would love to help! Call (907) 283-9118 and ask to speak with Management.
