What is urology?

Urology Institute MediCenter and Alaska Institute of Surgical & Medical Specialties partnered to create a Urology Institute in Kenai. Urology is a specialized field of medicine, but has its own sub-specialties. Every physician on our team is an expert in at least one urological sub-specialty. Whatever your symptoms, our specialist who can diagnose you.

We treat male, female and pediatric patients for a wide range of issues related to the urinary system, from bedwetting to cancer. Our urologist can diagnose symptoms such as kidney pain, erectile dysfunction or frequent urination with a urological exam that may be as simple as a conversation or could include testing with advanced technology.

Some of the diagnostic tests our physicians use are symptom score (essentially questions your doctor asks to gauge your level of pain), ultrasound, X-ray, computerized tomography (CT) scan, blood tests such as the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, urodynamics (to evaluate bladder function), cystoscopy (which allows a doctor to visually inspect the urinary system) and biopsy (to detect cancer).
